Summary of Position
Under the supervision of the Provincial Medial Director (PMD) and National Prevention Manager (NPM), the position is responsible for planning, strategizing, coordinating and supervising the combination prevention strategy that emphasizes a mix of behavioral, biomedical and structural interventions.
Position reports in Westville Durban AHF Office.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Include the following, but not limited to:
Prevention & Testing Responsibilities:
- Leads the scale up of HIV prevention program initiatives including collaborations with NGO/CBO/FBO partners to ensure evidence based prevention services are accessible to communities in need.
- This includes maintaining collaborative linkages with health facilities, civil society, district, and Provincial AIDS Councils and other relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor facility performance within the KZN region to ensure that prevention programme objectives are met.
- Develops and monitors the implementation of work plans for testing and prevention initiatives.
- Supervises and mentors staff, monitors program activities with the aim of making improvement and adopts newer strategies that lead to program improvement.
- Develops and/or adopts relevant training to ensure quality of prevention services delivered is of high quality. This includes identifying HIV prevention training needs and conducting trainings to health workers in collaboration with various partners.
- Develops and integrates quality assurance for all prevention activities undertaken.
- Coordinates patient linkages, retention and tracking of positives to ensure that effective protocols for linkages are adopted and linkages are scaled up / improved.
- Coordinate Girls Act activities and build the capacity of young women and girls to drive the initiative within the province.
- Coordinates Style Up activities at a provincial level and provide monthly feedback
- Responsible for leading and successful implementation of IPHC HIV Prevention activities and all government supported facilities with the support of the HIV Prevention Program Coordinator
- Support the organization to identify important and timely policy and advocacy issues that are believed to improve HIV prevention, treatment and care service
- Work with the prevention team to prepare monthly, quarterly and other related reports as may be required from time to time
- Together with the PMD and NPM take part in preparing budgets for all prevention activities.

Responsible for forecasting and management of inventory, logistics and supplies for prevention related activities.
- Develop and implement SOPs for various aspects of the HIV Prevention programme and ensure compliance to all official prescripts, both AHF and governments’.
- Conducts site support supervision activities for AHF supported health facilities and communities to monitor quality of activities and provides technical support to health workers and community members (WBOTS) supporting the program
- Keep abreast of research & policy development and debates in South Africa, relevant to the issues pertinent to the fight against HIV/AIDS, particularly issues of prevention and treatment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible for supervision of all prevention staff in the region.
Provide mentorship, guidance, performance reviews, discipline in line with HR policies and procedures
Education and/or Experience
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Community Development or International Relations, or relevant related training,
- Minimum 4 years of proven experience working in the HIV field
- Good Knowledge of HIV National Prevention & Treatment policy guidelines including guidelines from related government departments –Health, Education, Social Services etc.
- Ability to work in a public sector environment to accomplish goals and favorably influence decision making processes in a diplomatic and collaborative manner
