More information...Qualifications and Experience:- A Diploma in Education with 15+ teaching experience in Early Years, 5 of which in a Coordinator role or Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field with 5+ years teaching experience in Early Years education and leader of the IB PYP.
- A Master’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field is an added advantage.
- TSC registration.
- Demonstrated experience in delivering the IB PYP and a strong understanding of its philosophy, framework and implementation.
- Proven ability to lead curriculum planning, assessment and staff professional development in an international or multicultural school setting.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and reflective leadership style.
- Experience working in a high-performing school environment with a focus on student well-being, inquiry-based learning and child-centered approaches.

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi (AKA, Nairobi) is an IB continuum school in Kenya authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB) from Early Years through the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi - Nursery School has an opening for the position of: Nursery Coordinator.
Role Summary
The Nursery Coordinator ensures the smooth daily running of the Nursery Section, creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for early learners. Supporting the Head of Nursery and acting in their absence, the role promotes high standards of teaching and learning aligned with the IB PYP.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide day-to-day leadership and operational oversight of the Nursery Section, acting as the Head in their absence.
- Champion the full implementation of the IB PYP framework, including Transdisciplinary Themes, ATL, ATT, Learner Profile, and PYP Exhibition.
- Ensure inquiry-based learning is embedded in planning, delivery and assessment of teaching and learning practices.
- Facilitate regular review and development of curriculum documentation, schemes of work and weekly lesson planning aligned to IB standards.
- Lead professional development initiatives that reflect school priorities and model best practice in PYP pedagogy through coaching and mentoring.
- Drive high-quality teaching and learning by regularly conducting lesson observations, drop-ins and feedback sessions.
- Support accurate student progress tracking and use data to identify learning gaps and implement interventions to maximize outcomes.
- Uphold and promote school policies on health, safety, safeguarding, and positive behaviour management, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
- Engage parents through regular communication, workshops and involvement opportunities to enhance learning and build strong home-school partnerships.
- Support pastoral care including attendance, behaviour and reward systems to ensure the well-being and holistic development of every child.
- Ensure effective resource planning, including inventory maintenance and advise on acquisition of materials to support curriculum delivery.
- Collaborate with leadership on the implementation and evaluation of the Nursery Section Improvement Plan and IB Self-Study and Evaluation processes.
- Oversee the induction and integration of new students, families and staff to ensure a smooth transition and orientation.
- Maintain accountability structures to ensure all staff adhere to school policies and are aligned with the vision, mission and values of the IB and the Aga Khan Academies.
- Support the development of a strong team culture built on mutual respect, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Lead initiatives that promote the emotional, social, physical and cognitive development of learners, preparing them for a seamless transition to Junior School.
- Support the school’s marketing, admissions and outreach efforts to ensure optimal enrolment and community visibility of the Nursery Section.
- Monitor implementation of assessment procedures (diagnostic, formative, summative) and ensure data is used to inform teaching and curriculum planning.
- Contribute to the strategic direction and growth of the Nursery Section through data-driven decision-making and stakeholder engagement.
