Position Overview

Role mission:  

The mission of the Senior Finance Manager will be to build and implement the systems, processes and team to provide clean and accurate financial data that allows Farm to Feed leadership to make strategic decisions.


Role description:

As Senior Finance Manager at Farm to Feed, you'll be a strategic architect building the financial foundation for our innovative agricultural technology platform that connects farmers with commercial kitchens across Africa. Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll establish robust financial systems, lead a dedicated team, and ensure accurate financial reporting that drives key business decisions. This role demands a seasoned finance professional with 5-10 years of experience who can manage everything from monthly financial closings and cash flow to regulatory compliance across Kenya and the US. Beyond technical expertise, you'll need a passion for our mission of reducing food loss and increasing farmer incomes, thriving in our "odd" yet impact-driven culture where innovation meets purpose. Your leadership will be instrumental in scaling our sustainable food ecosystem while maintaining financial integrity during our growth journey.



Key Responsibilities

  • Team Management: Manage a finance team composed of a bookkeeper and collections manager, including coaching and developing the team members and ensuring the efficiency and quality of team outputs with in-person work expected 5 days a week in person (with flex).
  • Financial Processes, Systems & Controls: Build and implement internal financial processes, systems and controls to ensure robust financial reporting, safeguarding of assets and maintenance of financial integrity.
  • Monthly Close & Reporting: Ensure the timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial closings, including P&L, balance sheet and budget vs actuals reporting for internal and external senior leadership review.
  • Accounts Receivable Management: Oversee accounts receivable processes, ensuring efficient invoicing, collections, and management of outstanding customer payments. Work to minimize overdue accounts and optimize working capital.
  • Cash Flow and Liquidity Oversight: Manage day-to-day cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs and support long-term financial sustainability.
  • Payroll Management: Oversee the preparation and processing of payroll, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, employee benefits, and accurate compensation for employees
  • Inventory and Asset Management: Oversee the tracking, valuation, and reporting company assets, including a fixed asset register. Ensure compliance with accounting principles in asset depreciation, impairment, and revaluation.
  • Tax & Regulatory Compliance: Ensure 100% compliance with finance and tax regulations in both Delaware (USA) and Kenya by possessing a clear understanding of the regulations, maintaining proper records and coordinating with external advisors, auditors and authorities.
  • Year-End Audit Preparation: Lead the preparation and coordination of the year-end audit, ensuring all financial records are accurate, complete, and in compliance with accounting standards. Work closely with external auditors to facilitate the audit process and resolve any issues or discrepancies.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration, Master’s degree or MBA is a strong advantage.
  • CPA, ACCA, CFA, or equivalent professional qualification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5–10 years of progressive experience in financial management, preferably within a corporation.
  • Experience at a startup, social enterprise, agri-business, or impact-driven organization is a plus.
  • Highly skilled in financial reporting and cash flow management; advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) are required.
  • Strong proficiency and past experience in financial systems and processes development and implementation.
  • High level of accuracy and integrity in managing financial data and processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and team management skills, with experience leading or mentoring finance staff, achieving team buy-in, and working cross-functionally with other departments.
  • Solid understanding of tax laws and financial regulations in Kenya and the United States (especially Delaware compliance)
     is preferred.
  • Bias to action and desire to dig in deep to find solutions, resolve issues and build a best-in-class finance organisation.
  • Proven proactivity with a strong sense of personal accountability.
