Giraffe Bioenergy is building the largest cassava-to-ethanol ecosystem serving the rapidly growing clean cooking market in East Africa. Our vision is to build, own and operate biorefineries in East Africa, producing ethanol cooking fuel affordable to communities currently reliant on charcoal and kerosene. By 2028 we plan to build 125 million litres/year of ethanol fuel capacity supplied by approx 1 million kgs of locally grown cassava. We need a seasoned Agricultural Manager to join our team and make this vision a reality!
About the Role
Giraffe Bioenergy is looking for an experienced leader to serve as their Full-time Agri-Business and Farm Manager, who will oversee Giraffe’s Center of Cassava Excellence Nursery and expansion into its first 100+ hectares of commercial cassava farming . They will be responsible for personnel hiring and management, overseeing cassava seedlings sales, farm operations, meeting agricultural growing requirements and running a block farmer program with a strong emphasis on data collection at all stages of the business.
Giraffe Bioenergy is a fast-growing start-up, and our Agri-Business and Farm Manager will be at the heart of our work, ensuring we meet critical early-stage revenue targets and company milestones. We need a leader who can work independently, problem-solve, and be a thought partner to envision the future of our nucleus farm and related programming.
This position reports to the Chief Operations Officer and will be based in Kilifi County, Kenya.
Position Overview:
The Farm Administration Officer will play a key role in supporting the farm’s dai operations by ensuring efficient procurement, stock management, and bas financial processes. They will assist the farm manager and team with administrati tasks, data analysis, and project management. This position will also ensure that farm finances are properly tracked, financial requests are accurately calculated, repo for approval, and implemented. This role requires a highly organized individual who is detail-oriented, with a strong capacity in operations and basic finance. The role wi be based primarily on site in Baircho, Kilifi County with possibility for a seconda base in Malindi town.
Key Responsibilities:
● Procurement and Inventory Management:
o Monitor farm stocks and supplies, ensuring that items are tracked and restocked in a timely manner.
o Assist in procurement processes, including requesting quotes, placing orders, following up with suppliers, and picking up/arranging delivery of items as needed.
o Ensure accurate record-keeping of all purchases and deliveries, and maintain an organized system for tracking inventory.
o Manage weekly food planning and stock for farm meals, develop relationships with local suppliers and procure all necessary supplies to regularly feed up to 200 workers.
● Project and Operations Support:
o Assist the farm manager in daily and weekly operational planning. o Provide data analysis and support in project management, helping to track progress and ensure efficient use of resource
● Financial & HR Support:
o Prepare and calculate payroll for casual laborers, ensuring all information is accurate before reporting to the accountant or Head of Finance for approval.
o Maintain records of payroll, contracts, and payments for easy reference and reporting.
o Support with basic financial duties such as tracking petty cash a expense reports.
o Assist in recruitment, onboarding and training of farm staff
o Handle employee inquiries and support the implementation of HR policies
● Administrative Duties:
o Oversee the general administration of the farm office, ensuring it ru smoothly and efficientl
o Liaise with external suppliers, contractors, and service providers as needed.
o Manage farm documentation, reports, and filing system
o Communicate regularly with the Head Office (Nairobi) to ensure a farm-related tasks required by senior management are being carried out.
Required Skills & Qualification
● Education:
o Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Operations Management, or a related fiel
● Experience:
o 2+ years of experience in an administrative, finance, or operations rol o Experience in procurement, stock management, and project management is highly desirable.
o Experience in an agricultural setting is not required but beneficia
● Skills:
o Strong analytical and organizational skills.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data management, and basic finan reporting.
o Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
o Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
o Keen attention to detail and accuracy in administrative and financi tasks.
● Other Requirements:
o Must be willing to spend the majority of their time at the farm office Baricho, Kilifi Count
o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
