Main purpose of position

Currently we are looking for an Electrician in Selebi Phikwe, Botswana to be part of our global team working together towards our vision – Improving our future.  As our Electrician you will perform Electrical work on the Solar PV Plant that will include Modification, Repair and Maintenance of Electrical Equipment and Systems as well as switching, isolation, earthing and LOTO duties as per Authorisation level. You will be required to support to provide training and supervision to junior personnel and to be the Authorized Person on Duty (APD) when the O&M Manager is off site.

 

Main responsibilities

Perform Electrical Duties on Plant

  • Perform work in the modification, repair test and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems
  • Perform work in the modification, technical troubleshoot, repair test and maintenance of all facility electrical equipment and systems
  • Complete routine safety documentation before every job including tailgate meetings, electrical work permits, etc.
  • Perform switching, isolation, safety test and earthing and LOTO duties as per Authorisation level of the organizational ORHVS and PSR
  • Perform OEM specific Preventative and Corrective Maintenance tasks on BESS, trackers, and all other PV electrical equipment to adhere to warranty requirements and industry best practices
  • Interpret schematics and blueprints
  • Quality assurance checklists and inspections to document deficiencies and identify corrective actions needed
  • Daily digital reporting and document on CMMS the maintenance activities of all facility electrical equipment, systems and spare parts
  • Control and perform monthly electrical equipment/instruments and tools inspections
  • Monitor and support the activities of Maintenance sub-contractor(s)
  • Assist in developing standard operating procedures and processes
  • Identify and provide feedback to issues and ongoing development of projects
  • Perform functions of Authorised Person and Responsible Person as per Plant requirements

Supervision and training

  • Supervise and train junior personnel in associated duties
  • Act as team leader
  • Supervise, train and evaluate junior electrical staff
  • Support client training pre-COD

Perform general and ad hoc duties

  • Assist with reporting requirements and support any site audit as requested
  • Perform various HSSE related inspections and documenting
  • Report to Plant Management and perform Appointed Person on Duty (APD) functions when O&M Manager is not on site
  • Perform general tasks as required on site

Qualifications and competencies 

  • N3 Qualification or similar
  • Qualified Electrician and ORHVS qualification
  • Registered 3 phase installation electrician; not single-phase tester
  • Computer literate – Excel & Word
  • 5+ years Electrical experience – AC & DC electrical systems
  • Proven experience on MV & HV equipment troubleshooting, repairs and maintenance
  • Ability to take ownership of electrical systems on the plant
  • High Voltage Switching and Solar PV Plant experience
  • Supervision and training - Supervise, train junior personnel in associated duties and evaluate electrical staff
  • Maintain Transformers and Switchgear and Assist with reporting and perform various HSE related inspections
  • Experience with HV Switching, Solar PV Plant & BESS
  • Electrical knowledge (LV) and (HV)
  • Reporting

  • Operating System and Process Control
  • Non-conformances and claims management
  • Language: fluent both written and spoken in English

  • Required to work in rotating working schedule and perform standby services as per site requirements including weekends and public holidays
  • Be able to stand-in for Technical Manager
  • Must be available to travel as and when required
  • Valid drivers’ license
