Summary of Key Responsibilities

The Application Specialist works with local sales team, business developers, and equipment and R&D teams to ensure our customers’ toughest challenges are solved

  

 The Applications Specialist provides professional on-site service for customers including applications testing as required with a primary focus on Solid-Liquid Separation, Scale deposition and inhibition, defoamers, grinding aids, filter aids

This position will also support the commercial team in preparation of proposals and lead in the preparation of customer technical reports and trial proposals

This position is a critical function for the EM IS Minerals Processing team, and as such a high level of interpersonal skills both internally and externally are required.  Maintaining a professional image of Solenis and the portfolio + brand in the marketplace is critical, whilst supporting the commercial team to maintain and develop business.  Capability to develop and maintain one to one relationships with field staff and customers, as well as being a team player within the EM team.

Communications

  • Minimum weekly telecons as required with Senior Applications team members and/or business managers
  • Reports and documentation as required

Specific Accountabilities

  • Maintaining the highest safety standards to ensure there are no incidents or accidents in the working environment
  • Targeting new business opportunities specifically in the copperbelt region and with some support in other countries, including but not limited to Tanzania, Zambia, and other SADC region territories.
  • Learn Mining portfolio and support commercial team to develop new business
  • Pursuing growth and supporting new applications and opportunities on new and existing customers sites
  • Managing prospects effectively and making contacts within the allocated targets and markets.  Working with support groups to establish, maintain and prioritize an accurate and current prospect list.
  • Working with other team members and resource groups as necessary to ensure that customer deliverables are met and maintained

      

Person Specification

  • Should have technical/scientific/industry related tertiary qualifications
  • Must be confident in working for long periods unsupervised
  • Must be able to meet deadlines
  • Must be an effective and confident communicator
  • Must have 5 years Precious & Base minerals processing, specifically in process reagents for mineral beneficiation
  • Plus to have 5 years water or related industry experience
  • Ideally fluent with French, English and regional language proficiencies
  • Must be fully computer literate, i.e. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc
  • Should have experience and understanding of minerals beneficiation processes relating to concentration, scale control, and tailings management
  • Should have a good knowledge of robust experimental design and data handling
  • Ability to travel is essential ~50% of time on average
