BBC World Service is a global multimedia broadcaster, a part of BBC News, delivering language services around the world, to many parts on analogue and digital shortwave platforms, Internet streaming, podcasting, satellite, FM and MW relays. BBC Swahili is among ten other language services broadcasting to Africa attracting a weekly audience of nearly 100 million across Radio, TV, Digital and Social Media.
BBC Swahili Service operates a digital first strategy, publishing content online and on social media platforms, this alongside producing radio news and current affairs programmes in Swahili. The service’s focus is to produce world-class digital content that makes sense of news and events in Kenya and its neighbouring region for our local and global audiences.
We are looking for a Video Journalist with excellent written and spoken Swahili to join the team in Nairobi.
Reporting to the Senior Digital Journalist, your role is to produce, shoot and edit material, delivering highly shareable and engaging content for our service. You will ensure content is published according to timelines and meets the highest editorial standards at all times. You will also be responsible for location lighting, filming, editing, post production and product delivery.
The successful candidate will have a full command of Swahili (written and spoken) and a good standard of English. A journalistic background is required. Experience of digital newsgathering, original journalism, using various cameras and filing video from the field is essential; knowledge of outside broadcast techniques would be a distinct advantage. You will have a track record of filming and editing high quality video content, with knowledge of working with Final Cut Pro and other tools and applications as required. A full understanding of current technical issues involved in production of video content and a demonstrable interest in new media technologies is important.
