Overview

Jhpiego seeks a Training and Capacity Strengthening Officer for the newly awarded USAID-funded Comprehensive Community Prevention and Continuum of Care (C4) Program – Project Connect in Botswana. As the technical assistance provider, Jhpiego will strengthen civil society organizations (CSOs) to deliver quality HIV and social services. Jhpiego will also partner with the Government of Botswana (GOB), particularly ministries at the national level and district government offices to prioritize and strengthen their leadership capacity, coordination of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and gender-based violence (GBV) response strategies, and monitoring. The initial period of performance is two years with the possibility of three-one-year renewal periods.

 

Responsibilities

The Training and Capacity Strengthening Officer works with the M&E, technical, programmatic, and administrative staff to support training and capacity building for healthcare workers. This entails assessing training and skills development needs, identifying, reviewing, and adapting the appropriate content and approaches, and planning, implementing, and evaluating training and skills development initiatives. The Training coordinator will lead the regular needs assessment, review and updating of training content, and continually improve training and skills development approaches to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of training and skills development initiatives.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist Jhpiego program staff to develop and implement training programs
  • Ensure adaptation and adoption of new training approaches that focus on reducing service provider’s time out of their stations
  • Implement training activities for MOH and Project Connect staff.
  • Provide mentorship and supportive supervision of MOH and Project Connect trainers with a focus on quality assurance in training and service provision
  • Supervise Project Connect training and mentoring activities
  • Incorporate innovative training approaches in training, learning and skills development
  • Evaluate training activities and use evaluation data to improve training activities.
  • Represent Project Connect in technical meetings in PHC HIV, NCD, DREAMS, OVC, and other technical areas
  • Participate in all internal and external technical working group meetings as appropriate
  • Contribute to budgets, work plans, reports, and other technical papers
  • Maintain a database of training, mentoring, and other capacity-building activities
  • Manage some logistics of training activities.
  • Establish and manage the community of practices of healthcare workers and of trainers
  • Assist in program monitoring and evaluation

Required Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • A Registered nurse or related qualification
  • At least 5 years experience in in-service training for SRH, DREAMS, OVC, HIV, PHC, and pre-service programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional design (curriculum development)
  • Experience with the digitalization of training curriculum and training using diverse approaches such as in-person, blended learning, mentoring, e-mentoring, and establishment and managing of communities of practices
  • Experience with supporting primary healthcare workers in providing integrated services
  • Training in community health nursing or public health is an added advantage
  • Must be an excellent classroom and clinical trainer experience in clinical training
  • Experience with supporting community health workers to provide integrated community health services
  • Ability to communicate effectively, instilling trust and confidence
  • Computer literacy, particularly in the use of MS Office
  • Able and willing to travel up to 75% of the time.
