Position Summary
IREX is implementing two education programs in coastal Kenya: The Kenya Play Project (KPLAY) and the Girls Learning Through Technology (GLTT). The projects are working to integrate playful learning with technology in the implementation of the competency-based curriculum (CBC) to improve learning outcomes and empower learners with 21st Century skills. KPLAY and GLTT programs are working to build the capacity of primary school teachers and education officials, particularly Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs) to integrate technology in learning. The projects are working to build the basic digital literacy skills of the teachers and CSOs as well as introduce them to creative coding using Scratch and MakeyMakey.
IREX seeks a qualified short-term consultant to support both projects in providing digital skills and creative coding training and support to the targeted project beneficiaries. The consultant will support curriculum development, training, follow up and support to the teachers and CSOs. The Consultant will work closely with the training team for specific deliverables and assignment of tasks. The anticipated duration for the consultancy is three to six months. Expected number of hours per week is between 10 – 20 hours.
DELIVERABLES
Under the supervision and in consultation with the Project Director and Training Associate, the Short-Term Consultant will provide support for digital skills and creative coding training for teachers and CSOs in Kwale and Kilifi County. Specifically, the short-term consultant will complete the following ongoing tasks September through December:
