Requirements

  • Master of Medicine in Clinical Pathology or equivalent.
  • Recognized and registered as a Clinical Pathologist by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
  • Experience in teaching clinical pathology subjects at the undergraduate or post-graduate level.
  • Ongoing expert-level practice in clinical laboratory practice at a busy clinical service laboratory
  • Previous experience in curriculum development, course leadership, or educational program management.
  • Experience in competency-based medical education, active learning methods, and simulation-based teaching.
  • Familiarity with educational technologies, including learning management systems and virtual labs.
  • A record of educational and clinical scholarship, including published research and presentations at conferences.
  • Experience in grant writing and securing external funding.
  • Excellent liaison and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Adaptability to new or changing situations and flexibility towards work deadlines.
  • Exceptional teamwork, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and manage delegated tasks and small projects.

Competence in IT and e-Learning.

Job Summary

The incumbent will undertake educational and clinical functions under the supervision of the Department Chair or delegated individuals within the department.  In this role, the incumbent will be involved in teaching, educational leadership, clinical service in the clinical laboratory, clinical and educational research, and student mentoring. The faculty will work closely with the UGME Pathology course coordinator, other pathology course leads and all pathology Faculty in delivery of clinical pathology courses to MBChB students.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the course lead with the aim of ensuring coordination and management of all educational activities and delivery of clinical pathology courses to MBChB students.
  • Design, implement, and evaluate clinical pathology-related educational materials, including lectures, labs, small group discussions, and interactive learning modules.
  • Coordinate and oversee the delivery of learning sessions by other faculty, ensuring content consistency, pedagogical alignment, and adherence to course objectives.
  • Implement quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the student learning experience and instructional delivery.
  • Develop and conduct formative and summative assessments, including multiple-choice exams, practical exams, written assignments and case-based presentations, providing timely and constructive feedback to students.
  • Pursue extramural funding opportunities for both educational and clinical research projects.
  • Conduct research in areas such as curriculum innovation, student assessment, active learning, and competency-based education.
  • Design and conduct clinical research studies in diagnostic pathology.
  • Support the clinical laboratory’s education mission by mentoring residents, fellows, and medical technologists in the Department of Pathology.
  • Provide diagnostic services in the clinical service laboratory, including test interpretation, reporting, and consultation with clinical teams.
