Job Description

Essence of the job:

 

This is a 6 months contract and the position provides financial analysis and cost reporting for the Cape Town Refinery as part of the Finance Team.

 

Responsibilities include supporting refinery cost centre owners with monthly financial information & analysis of their results to improve decision-making, identifying areas of financial control weakness to be addressed, understanding the effect of business drivers on the refinery’s financial performance and providing strategic financial advice to the business unit with the aim of improving their business performance.

 

 

Qualification:

  • Fully qualified CA(SA) or CIMA non-negotiable
  • 2-5 years of experience post qualification highly preferable, especially experience in cost analysis and reporting
  • Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and presentation skills, with ability and confidence to work well with a broad spectrum of personnel across the organization and constructively provide guidance within a team environment.
  • SAP and experience knowledge would count in candidate’s favour

 

Minimum Requirements 

  • Process monthly opex accruals & ensure monthly account reconciliations are performed on time. Liaise with BU contacts to ensure accrued items are timeously cleared from the accruals account
  • Produce monthly cost reporting & coordinate cost review meetings with cost centre owners. Leverage financial acumen to influence business decision-making with the goal of meeting opex budgetary targets.
  • Perform monthly variance analysis of actual vs budget on operating expenses (opex) and provide explanations for variances for submission to head office reporting team and other stakeholders (EXCO, ultimate shareholder)
  • Coordinate monthly 24-month rolling forecast for refinery opex – gather inputs from key stakeholders, review for reasonability and accuracy, consolidate, present for business unit leader approval
  • Coordinate annual opex business planning – gather inputs from key stakeholders, review for reasonability and accuracy, consolidate, present for business unit leader approval
  • Prepares and presents divisional opex financial reports and variance explanations as required by Refinery Leadership Team at monthly governance meeting

 

Ad-hoc KPI’s:

  • Provide financial guidance to refinery business unit
  • Example of guidance and support include: accounting policy & IFRS interpretation and application, tax implications of proposed actions, capex vs. opex decisions etc.
  • Participate in special projects as directed by Manager, Refinery Finance. Projects are focused on continuous improvement in the areas of cost (SAP, ARIBA, cost reporting).
