Position: Education in Emergencies Officer – Senior - Level (Global Talent Pool)

Experience: 8+ years

Location: Global

Industries: Humanitarian, NGO, INGO

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of emergency education programs in alignment with organizational goals and donor requirements.

  • Conduct thorough needs assessments and contextual analyses to inform program strategies and approaches.

  • Develop comprehensive education response plans tailored to specific emergency contexts, ensuring alignment with global best practices and standards.

  • Provide technical guidance and support to field teams and partners in the implementation of emergency education interventions.

  • Ensure quality assurance and compliance with sectoral standards and guidelines, including Sphere standards and INEE Minimum Standards.

  • Stay updated on the latest developments, innovations, and research in emergency education, and integrate lessons learned into program design and implementation.

  • Identify capacity gaps within the organization and partner agencies, and develop and deliver training programs to strengthen the skills and knowledge of staff and partners in emergency education.

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to junior staff members and field teams, fostering their professional growth and development.

  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with relevant stakeholders, including government entities, UN agencies, NGOs, and local community organizations.

  • Participate in coordination mechanisms at the national and regional levels to ensure complementarity and avoid duplication of efforts in emergency education response.

  • Represent the organization in relevant forums, conferences, and working groups, advocating for the importance of education in emergency settings.

  • Develop MEAL frameworks and tools to track progress, measure impact, and ensure accountability in emergency education programs.

  • Conduct regular monitoring visits to field locations to assess program effectiveness, identify challenges, and recommend corrective actions.

  • Facilitate learning processes within the organization and among partners, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and adaptive management.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Education, International Development, Social Sciences, or related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in emergency education, with a humanitarian organization or similar entity.

  • Proven track record of successfully designing, implementing, and managing emergency education programs in complex humanitarian settings.

  • In-depth understanding of international humanitarian standards, principles, and frameworks related to education in emergencies.

  • Strong technical expertise in areas such as teacher training, curriculum development, psychosocial support, and community engagement.

  • Excellent project management skills, including budgeting, planning, and reporting.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams, with sensitivity to diverse cultural contexts.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and networking skills, with the ability to represent the organization effectively to external stakeholders.

  • Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages, especially French or Arabic, is highly desirable.

  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently to field locations, often in challenging and insecure environments.
