Position: Disaster and Risk Reduction Mid-level (Talent Pool)

Experience: 3- 7 years

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programs. 

  • Manage budgets and resources for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) activities. 

  • Oversee the work of junior team members. 

  • Conduct in-depth research on disaster risks and vulnerabilities in specific regions or countries. 

  • Develop and implement risk assessments and mitigation strategies. 

  • Provide technical guidance and support to program teams and stakeholders. 

  • Develop and advocate for DRR policies at local, national, or regional levels. 

  • Represent the organization in meetings and conferences on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). 

  • Collaborate with governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders on DRR initiatives.

  • Design and deliver training workshops on disaster preparedness and risk reduction for communities and government officials. 

  • Support capacity building initiatives for local and national partners in DRR. 

  • Lead the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programs. 

  • Analyze data and evaluate the effectiveness of DRR interventions. 

  • Prepare reports on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) program progress and challenges. 

  • Develop and manage proposals for funding DRR programs. 

  • Secure funding from donors and government agencies for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field, such as environmental science, engineering, geography, public health, or social sciences 

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with several years of experience in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) can also be considered 

  • 3-5 years of experience in disaster risk reduction, project management, research, or a closely related field 

  • Demonstrated experience leading and managing Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) programs or projects 

  • Experience working in a developing country or context is a plus 

  • Strong communication, leadership, project management, problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation (for some positions), and interpersonal skills 

  • Advanced understanding of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) principles, data analysis and research skills, program development and evaluation expertise, technical writing abilities, and proficiency in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software 

  • Experience in fundraising and grant writing may be beneficial for some positions 

  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in another relevant UN language (e.g., French, Spanish, Arabic) is a strong asset 

  • Strong commitment to disaster risk reduction and building community resilience 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

  • Strong cultural sensitivity and adaptability 

  • Proficiency in using standard computer software applications 

  • Valid driver's license may be required for some positions
