Position: Disaster and Risk Reduction Internship (Global Talent Pool)

Experience: 0–1 year 

Location: Global

Industries: Humanitarian, NGO, INGO

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with research on disaster risks and vulnerabilities in specific regions or countries 

  • Compile and analyze data on past disasters, including economic and social impacts 

  • Contribute to the development of risk assessments and maps 

  • Support the creation of communication materials on disaster preparedness and risk reduction (e.g., presentations, flyers, social media content) 

  • Assist with organizing workshops or training sessions on disaster risk reduction for communities 

  • Help with the development or implementation of disaster risk reduction programs 

  • Assist in fundraising efforts for disaster preparedness initiatives 

  • Conduct research on best practices in disaster risk reduction 

  • Assist with monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of disaster risk reduction programs

  • Contribute to reports on disaster risk reduction progress and challenges 

  • Stay updated on current trends and issues in disaster risk reduction 

  • Provide administrative support to the disaster risk reduction team as needed 

  • Participate in relevant meetings and conferences.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program (final year) or possessing a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as environmental science, engineering, geography, public health, or social sciences 

  • Master's degree in a related field may be an asset 

  • Experience is not always required, but prior experience in disaster risk reduction, research, or project management is a plus 

  • Volunteer experience in disaster relief or community development is also valuable 

  • Strong communication, research, problem-solving, organizational, interpersonal, and self-motivated skills 

  • Understanding of DRR principles, data analysis skills, research skills, and proficiency in basic data analysis tools 

  • Familiarity with project management principles and GIS software may be beneficial for some positions 

  • Fluency in English is required. Fluency in another UN language (e.g., French, Spanish, Arabic) is a strong asset 

  • Strong commitment to disaster risk reduction and building community resilience 

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

  • Strong cultural sensitivity and adaptability 

  • Proficiency in using standard computer software applications
