Job Summary

The Accountant will perform the functions of overseeing budgeting, reporting, bookkeeping, payroll, and statutory filings. You will partner closely with the Board of Managers, Field Director, CEO, and Core Staff to ensure financial transparency, accuracy, and strategic alignment with our mission.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

1. Financial Leadership & Oversight
  • Act as the primary signatory for all Kenya-based financial matters.
  • Prepare, manage, and monitor the annual Kenya budget, communicate and correct any deviations.
  • Consolidate Kenya and U.S. books on a monthly basis.

2. Reporting & Compliance
  • Deliver financial reports to the Board of Directors at scheduled meetings.
  • Deliver student tuition reports to of Managers at schedule meetings.
  • Submit statutory returns to KRA, SHIF, and NSSF.
  • Submit annual financial statements to the NGO’s Board and prepare audit materials.
  • Compile the Annual Report for NHIF, NSSF, and KRA.
3. Bookkeeping & Transaction Management
  • Maintain accurate student tuition account records; update weekly.
  • Record all organizational transactions promptly and reconcile cash accounts to bank statements monthly.
  • Ensure timely payment of vendors and prompt collection of tuition and other revenues.
  • Maintain and record all vendor receipts, vendor payments, revenue accounts, and other non-cash transactions monthly.
  • Finalize month-end entries by the fifth working day; create recurring journal entries as needed.
4. Payroll Administration
  • Oversee payroll processing and manage all payroll accounts.
  • Adjust statutory deductions to reflect current liabilities.
5. Stakeholder Communication
  • Liaise with parents and guardians on financial inquiries or account balances, alongside School Administration.
  • Submit monthly Kenya budget requests to the CEO by the 24th of each month.
6. Core Staff & Organizational Support
  • Serve on the Core Staff Team and participate in all Core Staff meetings.
  • Report monthly Kenya-side financials to the Field Director.
  • Support programs such as fundraisers, volunteer hosting, discipleship events, and facility projects.
7. General Organizational Duties
  • Enforce and adhere to the policies of the Organization.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by your supervisor or the Freedom Global Board.

Requirements

  • Finance degree with professional accounting certification (ACA, ACCA, CPA), or Accounting degree plus advanced finance coursework.
  • Proven 3 years experience in financial management, budgeting, and statutory compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and QuickBooks.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
